Blazing success for fire-affected event

Midlands events production and AV hire experts Quadrant Events has played a small but not insignificant part in staging a major client gathering which had been affected by the fire in March at the Derby Assembly Rooms.

The Quadrant team has worked with Derby-based construction company Bowmer & Kirkland for three years and had expected to be staging the Chairman’s Night on 2 October for 900 staff and guests in the famous Assembly Rooms. But when fire destroyed the top floor plant room and left the rest of the complex smoke-logged, event organisers were told they would have to book elsewhere.

Accommodating up to 1000 guests needed both an indoor and outdoor solution at the new venue, Derby Conference Centre. This included dressing a suite of marquees for the company awards ceremony by providing a bespoke set and backdrop, the stage, lighting, projection, live camera feed, autocue, and sound system. Quadrant designers also helped create a cocktail bar and guest rest areas within the Centre.

Andy Hogben, managing director of Quadrant Events said: “My team worked tirelessly with Bowmer & Kirkland colleagues to deliver a very special company awards night for them. Despite the need to re-work the venue, as well as the staging and rigging, we like to think we helped take the stress out of the changes to the original plan.”
Sarah Millington, Group PR Manager for Bowmer & Kirkland says: “Our Chairman’s Night in Derby is a special occasion when we thank and reward staff from around the country for their work with us. Despite having to re-think our plans for this year’s event, we appreciate the efforts made by the Derby Conference Centre and partners like Quadrant Events to deliver such a memorable evening.”
